STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point swimming and diving team swept St. Norbert on the Friday home opener. The women won 185-108, while the men won 239-57.
Results
Carolyn Powell (Olney, Ill./Richland County) led the Pointers women with two first-place finishes in the 100-yard and 200-yard breaststroke with times of 1:12.68 and 2:37.67, respectively. She also logged a second-place finish in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:22.58.
Brooke Buck (Janesville, Wis./AZVA Academy) took the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 55.66 and the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:01.87.
Joy Vandenberg (Black Creek, Wis./Appleton North) finished first in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.97. She also took second in the 100-yard butterfly, clocking a time of 1:01.26.
Tiana Cachuela (Oakdale, Minn./Park) won the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:20.64. Additionally, she tacked on two third-place finishes in the 100-yard butterfly and 200-yard IM with times of 1:02.03 and 2:27.87, respectively.
Hannah Scherwinski (Kenosha, Wis.) won the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:32.94 in her collegiate debut.
Abby Hopfensperger (Appleton, Wis./West) logged two wins in the 1-meter and 3-meter dives with scores of 249.75 and 258.80, respectively.
The relay team of
Kasey Fris (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln Way West),
Anna Scheglowski (Northfield, Minn./Northfield), Vandenberg and Buck took the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 4:07.78.
Winning the 200-yard freestyle relay was the unit consisting of Vandenberg,
Kyler Ernst (Fountain City, Wis./Luther), Scheglowski and
Rose Hansen (Grand Rapids, Minn./Grand Rapids).
Ernst earned a second-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke, clocking a time of 1:01.96. Fris also added a second-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:15.35.
For the men,
Gus Grimstad (Decorah, Iowa/Decorah) led the way for UWSP with three victories in the 100-yard butterfly, 200-yard butterfly and 200-yard IM with time of 51.36, 1:56.79 and 1:59.76, respectively.
Owen Miller (Mequon, Wis./Mequon) added two quick wins in the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard freestyle with times of 20.96 and 48.16, respectively.
Caiden Kuehn (Eagan, Minn./Eagan) won the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:48.76 and took first in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:02.72.
Mason Releford (Vacaville, Cal./Vacaville Christian) won the 100-yard and 200-yard breaststroke, clocking times of 1:01.43 and 2:14.81, respectively.
Ryan Trantham (Mackinaw, Ill./Deer Creek Mackinaw) tacked on a first-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:00.30.
Freshmen
Matthew Johnson (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central) and Matthew Warweg logged their first collegiate victories. Johnson took first in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:17.92 while Warweg took first in the 100-yard backstroke, clocking a time of 52.99.
Declan Trant (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove South) logged two wins in the 1-meter and 3-meter dives with scores of 280.80 and 259.60, respectively.
The Pointers team of Jacob Larson, Miller, Grimstad and
Camden Barwick (Weston, Wis./D.C. Everest) registered a first-place finish in the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 3:30.70.
The relay team of Miller, Barwick, Larson and
Peter McMahon (Whitefish Bay, Wis./Whitefish Bay) won the 200-yard freestyle relay, clocking a time of 1:26.93.
The Pointers will travel to UW-Eau Claire Saturday (Oct. 28). The meet is set to start at 1:00 p.m.
