MARQUETTE, Mich. – The UW-Stevens Point swimming and diving team lost to Northern Michigan in their annual dual, winning one event on the day. The men finished with a score of 84 to NMU's 213, and the women finished with a score of 96 to NMU's 200.
Results
Joy Vandenberg (Black Creek, Wis./Appleton North) led the women's team with a win in the 50-yard freestyle. She clocked a time of 25.23, finishing 0.02 seconds faster than the second-place finisher. Vandenberg also placed second in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:00.47.
Abby Hopfensperger (Appleton, Wis./West) took second place in both the 1-meter and the 3-meter dives with scores of 230.24 and 210.75, respectively.
Brooke Buck (Janesville, Wis./AZVA Academy) placed second in both the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 55.47 and in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:30.42. Buck also finished third in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:00.70.
Kate Henson (Morrison, Ill./Morrison) took second place in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:30.01. She also finished in third place in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:13.08, only three seconds behind the second-place finisher, and finished fourth in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:41.55.
Signe Alger (Saint Peter, Minn./Saint Peter) finished second in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:02.29, touching the wall only 0.11 seconds after the first-place finisher.
The relay team of Buck, Kyler Ernst (Fountain City, Wis./Luther), Vandenberg and Alger placed second in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:46.39.
On the men's side, Evan Plummer (Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) took second place in both the 3-meter and the 1-meter dives with scores of 258.07 and 248.47, respectively.
Gus Grimstad (Decorah, Iowa/Decorah) placed second in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 52.40, finishing 0.43 seconds after the first-place finisher. He also finished second in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:02.03 and finished fourth in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:01.84.
Will Lennertz (Muskego, Wis./Franklin) took second place in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:19.39 and took fourth place in the 50-yard freestyle with a time 22.49.
Ryan Trantham (Mackinaw, Ill./Deer Creek Mackinaw) finished second in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:01.83 and fourth in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:25.63.
Jacob Biscan (Edina, Minn./Edina) placed second in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:01.09.
In the 400-yard freestyle relay, the team of Jacob Larsen (Albany, Wis./Oregon), Biscan, Matthew Loy (Mazomanie, Wis./Wisconsin Heights) and Peter McMahon (Whitefish Bay, Wis./Whitefish Bay) finished second with a time of 3:14.63.
The Pointers will host the Point Invite next weekend (Jan. 20-21). The meet starts on Friday (Jan. 20) at 9:30 a.m.
