PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point track and field teams opened the outdoor season on Saturday. The Pointers racked up three event wins and team scores were not reported.
 
Results: Men | Women
 
On the men's side, Michael Kluz (Oconomowoc, Wis./Oconomowoc) took top billing in the 1500-meter run. His winning time was 4:07.93, less than a second faster than teammate and runner-up Ryan Reed (Madison, Wis./West).
 
Derek Penzkover (Rice Lake, Wis./Rice Lake) won the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:19.98, edging teammate Josh Tarnowski by nearly a second and a half.
 
Jermaine Evans () took second in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:05.77. Jared Schrang (Oconomowoc, Wis./Oconomowoc) also had a runner-up finish in the 400-meter hurdles clocking in at 55.79.
 
Blake Orr (Waupaca, Wis./Waupaca) finished in the top-4 in the shot put, discus and hammer throw.
 
For the women, Paige Allemann (Waumandee, Wis./Cochrane-Fountain City) completed the UWSP sweep of the 3000-meter steeplechase. She won with a time of 11:37.19.
 
UWSP sprinters Anetha Vogele (Necedah, Wis./Necedah) and Leyna Herzog (Appleton, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) took second in the 200- and 400-meter dashes. Vogele's time was 26.93 and Herzog's was 1:02.51. Herzog was just 0.16 seconds off the winning time.
 
Ashley Spatz (Sheboygan Falls, Wis./Sheboygan Falls) finished second in the 800-meter run. Her time was 2:33.58.
 
Ashley Bartelt (Hartford, Wis./Hartford Union), Abby Nelson (Iron River, Wis./Northwestern) and Ariana Matos (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield) had third-place finishes. Nelson cleared 3.43 meters (11" 3.00") in the pole vault.
 
UWSP will travel to Whitewater on Friday (April 8) for the Rex Foster Invite. Events begin at 12:00 p.m.
