UWSP Men Win 22nd-Straight WIAC Championship, Women Finish Third

BROWN DEER, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point swimming and diving men's team won their 22nd consecutive WIAC Championship finishing with 932 points, winning by two points. The women's team finished third with 767 points. Owen Miller (Mequon, Wis./Mequon) was awarded Men's Newcomer of the Year and Anna Pilecky (DeForest, Wis./DeForest) was named Women's Swimmer of the Meet.

Results

On the men's side, Jacob Larsen (Albany, Wis./Oregon) finished second in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:50.81. 

Ryan Trantham (Mackinaw, Ill./Deer Creek Mackinaw) placed second in the 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 16:31.26. 

Alec Jeffers (Green Bay, Wis./Bay Port) and Cameron Harris (Oswego, Ill./Oswego) took second and third in the 200-yard backstroke with times of 1:51.02 and 1:54.48, respectively.  

Sam Young (Verona, Wis./Middleton) placed third in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:03.62.  

The relay team of Jacob Larsen (Albany, Wis./Oregon), Jacob Biscan (Edina, Minn./Edina), Young and Miller finished third in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:04.92. 

Will Lennertz (Muskego, Wis./Franklin) finished seventh in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 47.53.  

For the women, Pilecky won the 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 17:01.31, breaking the meet record set by Pilecky in 2019 by 8 seconds. 

Abby Hopfensperger (Appleton, Wis./West) placed second in the three-meter dive with a score of 389.90.  

Kasey Fris (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln Way West) finished second in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:12.36. Fris placed third in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:06.57.  

The relay team of Joy Vandenberg (Black Creek, Wis./Appleton North), Kyler Ernst (Fountain City, Wis./Luther), Haley Dees (Normal, Ill./West) and Pilecky finished third in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:37.13.  

Carolyn Powell (Olney, Ill./Richland County) took sixth in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:31.72.  

Vandenberg finished sixth place in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 53.50.  

Since the WIAC men's swimming championships started in 1967, the Pointers' two-point margin of victory tied the 1969 margin of victory. The Pointers will wait to hear if any swimmers qualify for the national championship held in March.
