ELMHURST, Ill. – The UW-Stevens Point men's wrestling team had two bracket winners and the most team points at Saturday's Al Hanke Invitational.
Results
Luke Smiley (Plainfield, Ill./North) won the 157 bracket going 5-0 with two wins by fall. He had two wins by tech fall and the fifth by medical forfeit.
Trystan Altensey (Port Byron, Ill./Riverdale) took first in the 174 bracket. He went 4-0 with two wins by fall.
Ben Kasten (Reedsville, Wis./Brillion) finished fifth in the bracket. He had four wins, two by tech fall and two by decision.
Jerry Lipke (Milton, Wis./Milton) placed second in the 184 bracket. He had two wins by fall before dropping a 4-0 decision in the final.
Alex Mischka (Kimberly, Wis./Kimberly) finished second in the 197 bracket. He won a 19-0 tech fall and an 11-7 decision before falling in the final by decision, 7-5.
Ben Gunderson (Shiocton, Wis./Shiocton) took fourth in the 285 bracket. He had two wins, one by fall.
Noah Wieczorek (Clear Lake, Wis./Clear Lake) had a win by fall in the bracket.
Luca Paladino (Oak Creek, Wis./Oak Creek) placed fifth in the 125 bracket. He went 4-1 on the day with two decision wins, a major decision and a win by fall.
In the 141 bracket,
Luke Hill (Cashe, Okla./Cashe) took seventh with five wins, three by fall.
Matt Feia (Hudson, Wis./Hudson) had two wins, both by fall, and
Cooper Peterson (Cannon Falls, Minn./Cannon Falls) had one win by fall.
Derek Marten (Stratford, Wis./Stratford) took eighth in the 149 bracket. He had three wins, one by fall, in the consolation bracket.
Brandon Peckham (Plainfield, Wis./Tri-County) had two decision wins in the 165 bracket.
The Pointers return home to face UW-Whitewater in a league dual on Friday (Jan. 21) at 7:00 p.m. in Berg Gym.
