UWSP Falls in Meet Against Northern Michigan University

STEVENS POINT, Wis. - The UW-Stevens Point swimming and diving teams finished out their double feature weekend with a loss to NMU. The men's team finished with a score of 122.5 with NMU finishing with a score of 170.5. The women's team finished with a score of 94 to NMU's 204.
 
Results

For the men, Owen Miller (Mequon, Wis./Mequon) won both the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard freestyle with times of 21.25 and 48.67, respectively.
 
Cal Straub (Van Dyne, Wis./Appleton West) topped both the 1-meter and the 3-meter dives with respective scores of 229.75 and 233.75.
 
Gus Grimstad (Decorah, Iowa/Decorah) took second place in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 53.19. Grimstad also placed third in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 53.00.
 
Sam Young (Verona, Wis./Middleton) placed second in both the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:11.73 and the 400-yard IM with a time of 4:20.71.
 
Alec Jeffers (Green Bay, Wis./Bay Port) finished in second place in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:58.81. William Buhler (Racine, Wis./William Horlick) placed second in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 58.89.
 
The team of Grimstad, Buhler, Jacob Biscan (Edina, Minn./Edina) and Miller finished second place in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:34.82.
 
In the 200-yard freestyle relay, the team of Cooper Porzondek (Chippewa Falls, Wis./Chippewa Falls), Grimstad, Peter McMahon (Whitefish Bay, Wis./Whitefish Bay) and Miller finished second with a time of 1:27.64.
 
On the women's side, Anna Pilecky (DeForest, Wis./DeForest) won the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:44.81 and the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:17.59, finishing 10 seconds faster than the second-place finisher in the 500.
 
Claire Neuberger (Libertyville, Ill./Libertyville) won the 1-meter dive with a score of 243.55 and Abby Hopfensperger (Appleton, Wis./West) took the top spot in the 3-meter dive with a score of 225.90.
 
Brooke Buck (Wausau, Wis. /AZBA Academy) finished in second place in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 56.10. Carolyn Powell (Olney, Ill./Richland County) took second place in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:36.21.
 
In the 200-yard freestyle relay, the team of Julia DeGroot (Kimberly, Wis./Kimberly), Haley Dees (Normal, Ill./West), Joy Vandenberg (Black Creek, Wis./Appleton North) and Kasey Fris (New Lenoz, Ill./Lincoln Way West) took second place with a time of 1:41.76.
 
Kyler Ernst (Fountain City, Wis./Luther) finished third in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.84.
 
The team of Fris, Mimi Trenary (Moline, Ill./Moline), Vanderberg and DeGroot finished third in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:54.46.
 
Next weekend (Jan. 21-22) the Pointers will host the Point Invite. The meet is set to start at 10 a.m. on Friday and Saturday.
