Pointers Start 2022 with Big Win Against UWO

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point swimming and diving team started off the second half of their season with a win against UW-Oshkosh. The women's team finished with a score of 147 to UWO's 24, and the men's team finished with a score of 143 to UWO's 82.

Results

For the women, Anna Pilecky (DeForest, Wis./DeForest) finished in first place in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:22.90. Pilecky also won the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:20.65 and the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:42.33.

Kasey Fris (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln Way West) won the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:01.94. Kyler Ernst (Fountain City, Wis./Luther) followed closely behind in second place with a time of 1:03.40. Fris also won the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:17.88.

Joy Vandenberg (Black Creek, Wis./Appleton North) took first place in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:11.29. Vandenberg also won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.35.

Rose Hanson (Grand Rapids, Minn./Grand Rapids) finished first in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 57.97.

Haley Dees (Normal, Ill./West) took the top spot in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:03.84.

Brooke Buck (Wausau, Wis. /AZBA Academy) finished in first place in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:19.20.

Carolyn Powell (Olney, Ill./Richland County) won the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:37.98.

Tiana Cachuela (Oakdale, Minn./Park) took first place in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:02.55.

The team of Kearyn Brennan (Lake Geneva, Wis./Badger), Maddie Taylor (Rockford, Ill./East), Cachuela and Serena Goelitz (Monroe Center, Ill./Stillman Valley) took first place in the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 4:22.77.

The team of Dees, Brooklyn Miller (Portage, Wis./Portage), Anderson and Grace Gallagher (Bloomington, Ill./Normal West) won the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:55.74.

Claire Neuberger (Libertyville, Ill./Libertyville) took first place in the 3-meter dive with a score of 235.05 and second place in the 1-meter dive with a score of 231.75.

On the men's side,  Sam Young (Verona, Wis./Middleton) won the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:48.17. Young also took first place in the 200-yard IM with a time of 1:58.45.

Jacob Biscan (Edina, Minn./Edina) finished in first place in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:58.64. Biscan also won the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 53.06. 

Alec Jeffers (Green Bay, Wis./Bay Port) took first place in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 54.47.

William Buhler (Racine, Wis./William Horlick) placed first in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 59.83.

Owen Miller (Mequon, Wis./Mequon) won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 21.53.

Gus Grimstad (Decorah, Iowa/Decorah) took first place in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 49.39.

Joe Spitalnick (St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael Albertville) placed first in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:07.87.

Jared Chatterton (Kenosha, Wis./Tremper) won the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:24.74.

Ryan Trantham (Mackinaw, Ill./Deer Creek Mackinaw) won the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:20.27.

In the 400-yard medley relay, the team of Jeffers, Chatterton, Thomas Daniels (Sauk Rapids, Minn./Sauk Rapids-Rice) and Mike Schneider (Blaine, Minn./Centennial) finished in first place with a time of 3:49.51.  

The team of Grimstad, Schneider, Trantham and Marcus Breckheimer (Chilton, Wis./Chilton) won the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:19.73.

Cal Straub (Van Dyne, Wis./Appleton West) won both the 1-meter and the 3-meter dives with scores of 227.00 and 226.50, respectively.

The Pointers will finish out their weekend with a dual against Northern Michigan University tomorrow (Jan. 15). The meet is set to start at 2:00 p.m.
