STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens point men's wrestling team overcame an early deficit and picked up a dual victory over visiting UW-Platteville by a score of 20-15 in the home opener.
 
Jerry Lipke (Milton, Wis./Milton) got UWSP on the board with a 10-2 major decision at 197.  Ben Gunderson (Shiocton, Wis./Shiocton) gave the Pointers a 7-6 lead with a 3-2 decision win at 285.  Blaze Thurber (Nekoosa, Wis./Nekoosa) won by forfeit at 125.
 
Top-ranked Matt Berlin (Oak Creek, Wis./Oak Creek) won his match at 133 by a 10-2 major decision.  Luke Smiley (Plainfield, Ill./North) sealed the team win with a 3-1 decision at 157.
 
The Pointers host UW-Eau Claire and UW-Oshkosh on Friday (Feb. 12) in a tri dual.  Action is set to begin in the Multi-Activity Center at 4:00 p.m.
