Event Wins Plentiful for UWSP Swimming Against UWL

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point swimming and diving teams won a majority of the events in Saturday's action against UW-La Crosse at the UWSP Aquatics Center.  No team scores were kept.

The 200-yard medley relay team of Jake Larsen, William Buhler (Racine, Wis./William Horlick), Jacob Biscan (Edina, Minn./Edina) and Payton Kilian (Coon Rapids, Minn./Spring Lake Park) won the event by nearly four seconds with a time of 1:35.48,
 
Kilian took first in the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard freestyle with times of 21.74 and 48.94, respectively.  Larsen pocketed a victory in the 100-yard butterfly touching at 53.08.  Buhler added an event win in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 58.56.
 
Kilian and Larsen teamed with Matthew Inserra (Mount Prospect, Ill./Prospect) and Owen Powell (Olney, Ill./Richland County) to finish first in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:30.13.
 
Ethan Otto (Fort Collins, Colo./Fort Collins) won the 1000-yard freestyle. His time of 10:25.10 was 42 seconds faster than the runner-up.
 
Kody Hellenbrand (Madison, Wis./East) eked out a win in the 200-yard freestyle over teammate Powell with a time of 1:48.02.
 
Sam Young (Verona, Wis./Middleton) took first in the 200-yard IM with the only time under two minutes, clocking in at 1:57.19.
 
On the diving board, Brady Carrigan (Rosemont, Minn./Rosemont) won the one-meter event with a score of 252.30.  In the three-meter event, Max Schauer (Green Bay, Wis./Bay Port) took first with a score of 186.60.
 
For the women, Anna Pilecky (DeForest, Wis./DeForest) won the 1000-yard freestyle yet again posting a time of 10:43.91, nearly 30 seconds faster than second place.  She also finished 15 seconds faster than the runner-up in the 500-yard freestyle, posting a time of 5:20.38.
 
UWSP's squad of Kaylee Benson (Elk River, Minn./Elk River), Maddie Taylor (Rockford, Ill./East), Ava Magee (Oregon, Wis./Oregon) and Julia DeGroot (Kimberly, Wis./Kimberly) finished first in the 200-yard medley relay. Their time was 1:55.18.  DeGroot also won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.77.  Taylor grabbed a victory in the 200-yard IM touching at 2:22.34.  Benson picked up another win in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:01.87.
 
DeGroot teamed with Rose Hansen, Haley Dees (Normal, Ill./West) and Sydney Richetto (Wausau, Wis./East) to win the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:43.06.  Dees touched at 2:02.54 to finish first in the 200-yard freestyle.  Richetto won the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 57.15.
 
Abby Hopfensperger (Appleton, Wis./West) won both the one- and three-meter diving events with scores of 243.75 and 237.55, respectively.
 
The Pointers host UW-Eau Claire on Saturday (March 6) in the final meet of the year.
