Pointers Near Unanimous Event Winners in Meet Versus UWW

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point swimming and diving team won every event on the men's side and nearly all the event on the women's side in action against UW-Whitewater on Saturday at the UWSP Aquatics Center.  No team scores were kept.

On the men's side, UWSP won the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:36.39 with the squad of Alec Jeffers (Green Bay, Wis./Bay Port), William Buhler (Racine, Wis./William Horlick), Jake Larsen and Payton Kilian (Coon Rapids, Minn./Spring Lake Park).  Kilian won the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard freestyle with times of 21.83 and 48.41, respectively.
 
Jeffers won the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 54.05.
 
Ethan Otto (Fort Collins, Colo./Fort Collins) took first in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:24.46, 25 seconds ahead of the runner-up.  He also placed first in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:06.59.
 
Kody Hellenbrand (Madison, Wis./East) touched first in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:46.62.  He also took first in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 52.53.
 
Sam Young (Verona, Wis./Middleton) recorded a time of 1:56.98 to win the 200-yard IM by more than 10 seconds.  He also had a first-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 59.07.
 
Hellenbrand, Jacob Biscan (Edina, Minn./Edina), Larsen and Caiden Kuehn (Eagan, Minn./Eagan) teamed to win the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:30.16.
 
On the diving board, Brady Carrigan (Rosemont, Minn./Rosemont) won both the one- and three-meter events with scores of 242.10 and 220.55, respectively.
 
For the women, UWSP's relay team of Kaylee Benson (Elk River, Minn./Elk River), Maddie Taylor (Rockford, Ill./East), Kyra Goedken (Green Bay, Wis./Ashwaubenon) and Haley Dees (Normal, Ill./West) won the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:55.73.  Dees also won the 200-yard freestyle, touching at 2:03.59, and the 100-yard freestyle, clocking in at 57.20.  Benson had a first-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:04.06.
 
Anna Pilecky (DeForest, Wis./DeForest) easily won the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:41.98, 43 seconds ahead of second place.  She also touched first in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:15.84, 19 seconds ahead of the runner-up.
 
Julia DeGroot (Kimberly, Wis./Kimberly) finished first in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 26.10.  Ava Magee (Oregon, Wis./Oregon) took first in the 100-yard butterfly, finishing more than two seconds ahead with a time of 1:03.72.
 
Rose Hansen, Goedken, Dees and Sydney Richetto (Wausau, Wis./East) won the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:44.56.
 
Claire Neuberger (Libertyville, Ill./Libertyville) won both the one- and three-meter diving events.  Her scores were 251.45 and 253.40, respectively.
 
The Pointers are next in action on Feb. 27 with a home meet against UW-La Crosse.  Start time is slated for 12:00 p.m.
