STEVENS POINT, Wis. – Former UW-Stevens Point standout women's basketball player Megan Wilson has been named Associate Athletic Director at her alma mater, athletic director
Brad Duckworth announced today (Feb. 12).
"I am humbled to be given the opportunity return to my alma mater to serve the student-athletes, athletic department and community of Stevens Point," said Wilson. "To return to the university where I was greatly impacted by my experience as a student-athlete, won a national championship and started my coaching career is something I will be forever grateful for. I am excited to come back home."
Wilson comes back to UWSP after nearly a decade at WIAC foe UW-Platteville where she most recently served as associate athletic director and senior woman administrator. In her time at UWP, she also was the head women's basketball coach for nine seasons. Other duties that Wilson held at UW-Platteville included sports information coordinator, associate lecturer in the health and human performance department and she served as liaison for athletics to admissions.
Before heading to Platteville, Wilson was an assistant women's basketball coach under head coach
Shirley Egner from 2005 to 2009. The Pointers won WIAC championships in 2007-08 and 2008-09, earning NCAA III national tournament appearances both years. The 2009 Pointer squad advance to the Sweet Sixteen.
Wilson played for the Pointers from 1999 through 2003 and was a member of the UWSP women's basketball team that won the 2002 national championship. She was a team captain in both 2001-02 and 2002-03.
Prior to arriving at UWSP, Wilson had a successful prep career at Barneveld High School where she was a member of the Eagles' undefeated back-to-back WIAA state championship teams in 1998 and 1999. She was class valedictorian at Barneveld.
Wilson earned her bachelor of science degree in 2003, majoring in business administration and minoring in computer information systems. She also earned her master's from UW-Stevens Point in 2008 in general education. Wilson was a member of the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll at UW-Stevens Point.
Wilson and her husband, Josh, have three children, Aidan, Brody and Palmer. She will begin her duties at UWSP on Feb. 17.
