Butler, Hull, Rice, Wehrman Named Subway Athletes of the Year

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point athletics department has announced the recipients of the 2025-26 Subway Athletes of the Year awards. Josiah Butler (Appleton, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) and Maija Rice (L'Anse, Mich./L'Anse Area) of men's basketball and women's basketball picked up honors for male and female team sports. Easton Hull (Waupun, Wis./Waupun) and Faith Wehrman (New Berlin, Wis./Eisenhower) of men's wrestling and women's cross country/track and field were awarded for female and male individual sports.
 
Josiah Butler (Appleton, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) (Men's Basketball)
Butler led the UWSP men's basketball team in scoring this season at 18.6 points per game. He guided the Pointers to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2018. Butler picked up NABC all-district and D3hoops.com all-region honors after the season. He earned All-WIAC honors for the second-straight season. In November, Butler was named MVP of the UWSP Pre-Thanksgiving Tournament. In January, Butler scored his 1,000th career point and he ended the season with 1,244 points, 20th on the program's all-time scoring list. He also earned College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District honors for the second-consecutive season.
 
Easton Hull (Waupun, Wis./Waupun) (Men's Wrestling)
Hull earned All-America honors by finishing seventh at the NCAA Championships in the 184 pound bracket, becoming the first All-American wrestler for the Pointers since 2022. He was the regional champion and the regional most outstanding wrestler. He wrapped up the 2025-26 season with a 25-8 record. Hull picked up NWCA Scholar All-American and CSC Academic All-District honors. In November, he picked up WIAC Wrestler of the Week honors after winning the 184 bracket at the Pointer Open.
 
Maija Rice (L'Anse, Mich./L'Anse Area) (Women's Basketball)
Rice was selected to play in the WBCA Collegiate All-Star game after a stellar senior season. She was named to the D3hoops All-Region IX first team and was an All-WIAC first team pick as well. She led the WIAC in scoring this season at 17.3 points per game. Rice earned WIAC Player of the Week honors in November. In February, she became the 23rd player in program history with 1,000 career points. Rice earned CSC Academic All-District honors as well.
 
Faith Wehrman (New Berlin, Wis./Eisenhower) (Women's Cross Country/Track & Field)
Wehrman burst onto the scene as a freshman in 2025-26. She broke the school record for the 10K at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships where she placed 10th to earned All-American second-team honors. She was the WIAC Outdoor Champion in the 10K and was named the WIAC Newcomer of the Year for the outdoor season. During the cross country season, Wehrman was twice named WIAC Athlete of the Week after runner-up individual finishes at the UWO Titan Classic and the UWEC Blugold Invitational.
 
The winners will receive a commemorative plaque from Subway, the proud sponsor of UWSP's weekly athlete of the week feature on athletics.uwsp.edu during the season.
