Pointers Sink Titans in Dual Meet Sweep

OSHKOSH, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point swimming and diving teams swept UW-Oshkosh in a conference dual meet on Friday.  The men racked up a 165-73 win while the women earned a 147-92 victory.
 
Results
 
Sophomore Anna Pilecky (DeForest, Wis./DeForest) won the 1000-yard freestyle with a pool record time of 10:48.50, winning the event by more than a minute over the runner-up.  Pilecky placed second in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:14.48, just .04 seconds behind the event winner.
 
Signe Alger (Saint Peter, Minn./Saint Peter), Maddie Taylor (Rockford, Ill./East), Tiana Cachuela (Oakdale, Minn./Park) and Julia DeGroot (Kimberly, Wis./Kimberly) won the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:57.18.  The Pointers took the top three slots in the event.  Cachuela also won the 100-yard butterfly, edging out the runner-up by less than a second with a time of 1:03.32.
 
The Pointers dominated the 50-yard freestyle with Maggie Liska (North St. Paul, Minn./Mahtomedi) leading the way with a time of 26.07.  UWSP had the top seven finishers.  Liska also picked up a win in the 100-yard freestyle, clocking a time of 57.26.
 
Kaylee Benson (Elk River, Minn./Elk River) clocked a time of 1:02.86 to win the 100-yard backstroke, the first of five Pointers to top the event.
 
Claire Neuberger (Libertyville, Ill./Libertyville) racked up 237.25 points to win the one-meter dive.  She was also UWSP's top finisher in the three-meter dive, taking second with a score of 192.65.
 
In the men's 200-yard medley relay, UWSP had the top-five finishing squads led by Jacob Larsen (Albany, Wis./Oregon), Noah Casey (Madison, Wis./West), Ethan Nichols (Mokane, Mo./Rock Bridge) and Payton Kilian (Coon Rapids, Minn./Spring Lake Park) with a winning time of 1:39.95.
 
Kilian won the 100-yard freestyle touching at 48.56, as UWSP took the top six places in the event.
 
Kilian teamed with Jacob Aegerter (Cross Plains, Wis./Middleton), Larsen and Ryan McPherson (Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Tartan) to win the 200-yard freestyle relay.  Their time of 1:29.08 was the fastest of the four Pointers' teams finishing first through fourth.
 
Owen Powell (Olney, Ill./Richland County) led a quintet of top times in the 50-yard freestyle with a victorious time of 22.49.  Powell was also the top finisher in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 56.19.
 
Matthew Gorney (Oswego, Ill./Oswego) took the top slot in the 200-yard freestyle with a swim of 1:52.16.
 
Sam Young (Verona, Wis./Middleton) won the 200-yard IM with a time of 1:57.22, the fastest of the four Pointers to lead the way.
 
Zach Jorgenson clocked a 1:01.77 to win the 100-yard breaststroke.  Three other Pointers finished under 1:06.
 
Evan Plummer (Eau Claire, Wis./) took second in both the one-meter and three-meter dives.  He earned scores of 229.85 and 272.90, respectively.
 
UWSP returns to action at the annual Point Invite on January 17.  The first action begins at 10:00 a.m.
