STEVENS POINT, Wis. - The UW-Stevens Point athletic department announced the hiring of
Jake Wozniak as the associate head men's and women's wrestling coach. The position, the first full-time assistant coaching position in program history, was created to continue to build the new UWSP women's wrestling program.
"I am excited for the opportunity to coach full time with the men's and women's teams at UWSP," said Wozniak. "The addition of a women's team is great for the high school girls who are competing in Wisconsin and the Midwest, and the men's team continues to head in a great direction."
Wozniak has been with the Pointers' wrestling program for the last 10 years, serving as the head assistant coach the last eight. During those seasons, he has seen the Pointers earn nine All-America honors and two individual national championships.
A four-year letterwinner for the Pointers, Wozniak turned in the most impressive season of his career in his final season at 165 pounds, boasting a 34-6 record on his way to qualifying for his second NCAA Championship. In 2009, Wozniak was the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) champion at 165 pounds and was named the championship's Most Outstanding Wrestler.
For his career, Wozniak tallied 78 wins including 20-plus wins his last two seasons. The native of Stanley, Wis., was also a two-time state qualifier in high school, posting a career mark of 118-19 at Stanley-Boyd High School.
In addition to coaching on the wrestling staff, Wozniak will have secondary responsibilities helping with student-athlete academic success.
