STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's tennis team (1-6) earned its first victory of the year with a 5-4 decision over Lakeland (4-3) on Sunday in the opening match. The Pointers fell in the nightcap to UW-River Falls (1-3, 1-0) by an 8-1 final.
UWSP 5, LU 4 – Box Score
Anna Dobbe (Stoddard, Wis./Onalaska Luther) teamed with
Angelica Hernandez (Blue Island, Ill./Dwight D. Eisenhower) for a 9-8 tiebreaker victory in the No. 2 doubles match. UWSP's pairing of
Lea Beckman (Merrill, Wis./Merrill) and
Rebecca Goska (Green Bay, Wis./Preble) also earned a doubles victory by an 8-5 score.
In singles action, Dobbe won 6-3, 6-0 in the No. 2 match. Hernandez won her No. 4 singles match by a 6-1, 6-1 score. Goska earned the win for the Pointers with a 6-0, 6-2 victory in the No. 6 singles.
UWSP 1, UWRF 8 – Box Score
Beckman earned a 6-2, 6-1 win in the No. 5 singles for the Pointers lone point. Dobbe took her opponent to a tiebreak in the No. 2 singles winning the first set, 6-3.
The Pointers travel to Appleton on Saturday (Sept. 22) to face host Lawrence at 9:30 a.m. before playing Alverno at 12:30 p.m.
