Box Score 2 WHITEWATER, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point baseball team (24-10, 15-5) put up 12 runs in game two and earned a split at No. 2 UW-Whitewater (25-5, 15-3) on Friday in WIAC action.  The Warhawks took the opening game, 6-0, behind three home runs.  UWSP had four players with multiple RBI in game two and won, 12-8.
 
Freshman 
Aaron Simmons (Franklin, Wis. /Franklin) had four hits on the day.  He scored twice and drove in a run.  Fellow freshman 
Payton Nelson (Wausau, Wis. /West) drilled his second home run, one of three hits on the day.  He scored four runs and drove in two.  
Christian Zamudio (Kenosha, Wis. /Tremper) also contributed four hits.  He had two RBI and scored a run.
 
Jordan Carlson (Madison, Wis./Madison La Follette) and 
Lucas Luedtke (River Falls, Wis./River Falls ) each drove in two runs in the win.  
Kyle Mrozinski (Ashwaubenon, Wis./Ashwaubenon) and Will Iloncaie each recorded three hits and a RBI over the two games.  Mrozinski also scored twice.
 
Game 1 – UWSP 0, UWW 6
Zamudio and Will Iloncaie singled back-to-back with one out in the third inning.  
Ryan Stanicek (Loves Park, Ill./Boylan Catholic) drew a walk to load the bases, but UWSP was held off the board in the frame.
 
UWW broke through in the bottom of the third on back-to-back home runs for a 3-0 lead.  Another home run in the fourth made it 5-0.
 
Kyle Mrozinski (Ashwaubenon, Wis./Ashwaubenon) led off the seventh with a single and Simmons followed suit, but again the Pointers were unable to produce a run.
 
The Warhawks scored a run in the eighth without a hit to make it a 6-0 game.
 
Ben Miller (Union Grove, Wis./Union Grove) suffered the loss after shutting down the UWW offense over the first 2.2 innings. He went 4.0 innings with three strikeouts and no walks.  Zach Miller tossed 2.0 innings with just one hit against.  
Cale Cuddie (Loyal, Wis./Loyal) threw 2.0 hitless frame in relief as well.
 
Game 2 – UWSP 12, UWW 8
UWW opened the scoring in game two with a run in the bottom of the first on a pair of hits.
 
Mrozinski singled to begin the second and Simmons followed with a walk.  Two batters later, Zamudio singled to tie the game at 1-1.
 
Tommy Duddleston (Chicago, Ill./De La Salle Institute) drew a two-out walk in the third.  
Payton Nelson (Wausau, Wis. /West) followed with a two-run shot to give UWSP a 3-1 edge.
 
In the fourth, Simmons reached on an error and stole second.  Zamudio came through with an RBI single.  Two batters later, Iloncaie doubled to plate another and up the lead to 5-1.
 
Nelson got aboard with one down in the fifth on a single.  He scored on a double by Mrozinski.  Simmons followed with an RBI single and a 7-1 lead.
 
The Warhawks got single runs back in the fifth and the sixth, but UWSP kept the offense going in the seventh.  Duddleston singled to begin the inning and walks to Nelson and Simmons loaded the bases.  Luedtke hit a single to drive home two and put UWSP ahead 9-3.
 
UWW scored twice in the seventh and three times in the eighth to send the game to the ninth with the Pointers up just 9-8.
 
In the top of the ninth, Nelson led off with a single.  Mrozinski walked and both runners moved into scoring position on a wild pitch.  Carlson hit an 0-2 pitch for a single to drive in both runners.  Zamudio kept the rally going with a single to put runners on the corners.  
Neal Matson (Neillsville, Wis./Neillsville) hit a sac fly to cushion the lead at 12-8.
 
Stodola retired the side in order in the bottom of the ninth to claim his eighth save of the season, tying his for second in school history.
 
Starting pitcher 
Cole Erickson (Deerfield, Wis./Deerfield) went 7.1 innings and struck out 10.  He moved to 7-1 on the season with the win.
 
The Pointers and Warhawks square off against on Saturday in Whitewater.  First pitch of the doubleheader is slated for 12:00 p.m.
