STEVENS POINT, Wis. - The UW-Stevens Point swimming and diving teams kicked off the 2018-2019 swim campaign in a conference dual match up on Saturday afternoon against UW-Eau Claire. The men won the dual with a score of 192 to UW-Eau Claire's 104. The women fell short with a score of 101 to UW-Eau Claire's 199.
Results
Payton Kilian (Coon Rapids, Minn./Spring Lake Park) and
Grant Moser (St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville) went one-two in the 200-yard freestyle. The pair swam times of 1:48.33 and 1:49.68.
Alec Jeffers (Green Bay, Wis. /Bay Port), Will Buhler,
Grant Moser (St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville) and
Reilly Donnellan (Neenah, Wis./Neenah) won the 200-yard medley relay. The group out swam other competitors with a time of 1:37.57, three seconds faster than the second-place team.
Moser also picked up a win in the 100-yard butterfly. He finished with a time of 52.05.
Jeffers picked up a pair of wins the 100- and 200-yard backstroke in the dual. He clocked in times of 55.82 and 2:01.40, respectively.
Will Buhler, Sam Young and
Ivan Newham (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) dominated the top-three spots of the 100-yard breaststroke. The trio swam times of 1:01.53, 1:01.54, and 1:02.48.
Young also picked up a pair of wins in the 200-yard breaststroke and 200-yard IM with times of 2:15.19 and 1:59.75, respectively.
NCAA Championships veteran
Jacob Aegerter (Cross Plains, Wis./Middleton) won the 1,000- and 500-yard freestyle for the men. He finished with a time of 10:23.01 and 5:00.35, 15 and nine seconds faster than the second place finishers from UW-Eau Claire.
Reilly Donnellan (Neenah, Wis./Neenah),
Matthew Inserra (Mount Prospect, Ill./Prospect), Aegerter and Moser won the 200-yard freestyle relay. The quartet clocked in a time of 1:26.34.
Ryan McPherson (Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Tartan), Aegerter, and Zach Jorgenson won the top-three spots of the 200-yard butterfly. The group finished with times of 2:00.56, 2:01.02 and 2:03.86.
Donnellan pocketed a second-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle. He swam a time of 21.48, just seconds away from a first-place finish.
Brandon Donaldson (Andalusia, Ala./Andalusia) and Steve Novinska finished in third and fourth in the one-meter diving event. The pair finished with scores of 140.15 and 135.15. Donaldson also finished in third in the three-meter event with a score of 140.35.
Freshman
Anna Pilecky (DeForest, Wis./DeForest) picked up a pair of wins in her first dual meet in the 1,000- and 500-yard freestyle events. She swam a pair of times of 11:04.68 and 5:27.45.
Jess Posch (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way Central) won the three-meter diving event with a score of 193.55. She also placed fourth in the one-meter event with a score of 187.87.
Second-team all-conference selection
Anna O'Malley (St. Charles, Ill./East) and
Libby Dammen (Milton, Wis./Milton) went one-two in the 200-yard butterfly. The pair touched times of 2:19.31 and 2:25.58. O'Malley also picked up another win in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:00.30.
The team of
Kaylee Benson (Elk River, Minn./Elk River), Brenna Ruffolo,
Anna O'Malley (St. Charles, Ill./East) and
Maggie Liska (North St. Paul, Minn. /Mahtomedi) opened the 2018-19 campaign with a second-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay. The quartet timed in a time of 1:56.24, out-swimming their seeded time.
Liska also earned a second-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle. She finished with a time of 26.07.
Ava Magee (Oregon, Wis./Oregon) touched a third-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke. She clocked a time of 1:04.66.
Ruffolo earned a third-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:13.88.
Sydney Richetto (Wausau, Wis./East) finished in fourth place in the 200-yard freestyle. She finished with a time of 2:06.33, three seconds separating her from the first place finisher.
Last week at the Purple-Gold Meet, the UWSP swimming and diving team held a food drive and donated 391.6 pounds of food to The Cupboard.
The Pointers take an off week as they prepare of a tri-meet dual against Minnesota State-Mankato and Gustavus Adolphus on Nov. 3. The first race slated to begin at 1:00 p.m.
