Men’s Swimming Excels Past Gustavus in Tri-Dual

ST. PETER, Minn. - After a week break, the UW-Stevens Point swimming and diving teams returned to action to take on Gustavus Aldophus and Minnesota State University-Mankato.  The men defeated Gustavus Adolphus by a score of 181-119.  The women dropped both halves of the tri-dual to GAC and MSU.

The men picked up their first win in the 200-yard medley relay.  Sam Jekel (Fitchburg, Wis./Madison West), Reilly Donnellan (Neenah, Wis./Neenah), Brandon Richardson (Minneapolis, Minn./St. Michael Academy) and Jack Englehardt (Madison, Wis./West) as a team finished with a time of 1:34.25.  The same relay team pocketed a first-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle, a finishing time of 1:25.68.
 
Freshman Evan Plummer (Eau Claire, Wis. ) finished in first place in the three-meter diving event with a score of 231.03.  Senior Owen Gluck (West Bend, Wis./East) completed the diving sweep winning the one-meter diving event with a score of 227.65. 
 
Jekel pocketed another first-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke where he finished with a time of 54.55.
 
Englehardt, Donnellan, Richardson, Zach Ogurek (Stevens Point, Wis. ), and Shane Johnson (Eveleth, Minn. ) dominated the top five spots in the 50-yard freestyle.  The group of five finished with times of 21.01, 21.81, 21.89, 22.20 and 22.25, respectively.  Englehardt pocketed another first-place finish later in the 100-yard freestyle where he finished with a time of 47.47. 
 
Payton Killian (), Garrett Richetto (Wausau, Wis./East), Jacob Aegerter (Cross Plains, Wis./), Grant Moser (St. Michael, Minn./) and Michael Mills (Fox Point, Wis./Nicolet) dominated the top five spots in the 200-yard freestyle, respectively.  Each of the swimmers finished just under 1:55.00.  Killian later picked up a second-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle, where he finished with a time of 5:03.53.  
 
Ivan Newham (Lino Lakes, Minn. ) finished in second place in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:16.67.  Austin Tenussien also earned a second-place finish with a time of 10:31.30 in the 1,000-yard freestyle.
 
Ogurek, Brandon Donaldson (Andalusia, Ala./Andalusia) and Newham in the 100-yard breaststroke finished in second, third and fourth place.  Each finishing with times of 1:01.05, 1:01.52 and 1:01.72, respectively.
 
For the women, Jackie Braun (Sauk Rapids, Minn./) finished in second-place finish in the three-meter diving event.  Braun finished with a score of 196.75.  Braun also pocketed a third-place finish in the one-meter diving event, a finishing score of 222.20.
 
Anna O'Malley (St. Charles, Ill. ) pocketed a second-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:13.96.  O'Malley picked up a third-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 59.82.   
 
Breanna Ruffolo (Manitowoc, Wis. ) finished in fourth place in the 100-yard breaststroke.  Ruffolo finished with a time of 1:10.93. 
 
Kaylee Benson (Elk River, Minn. /Elk River), O'Malley, Kassie Yeazel (Whitewater, Wis./), and Erica Perkins (Rochester, Minn./Rochester Century High School) finished in fourth-place in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The quartet finished with a time of 1:46.76.
 
Benson finished in fifth place in the 100-yard backstroke.  Benson finished her race with a time of 1:03.41.  She later pocketed a fourth-place in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:19.19.
 
Perkins finished with a time of 4:59.63 in the 400-yard IM, a time good for fifth-place.
 
Sam James competed in the 500-yard freestyle finishing with a time of 5:53.26, a time good for ninth-place.  
 
The Pointers travel to Marquette, Mich., to take on Northern Michigan University on Saturday  (Nov. 11).  The meet is set to begin a 2:00 p.m.
