MINNEAPOLIS – The 23rd-ranked UW-Stevens Point wrestling team could not hold on to a 24-21 lead late in Friday's showdown with No. 7 Augsburg College, as the host Auggies posted a tech fall victory in the final match to escape with the 26-24 victory at Si Melby Hall.

Back-to-back-to-back victories by Logan Hermsen (Amherst Junction, WI/Amherst), Dan Squires (Muskego, WI/Wisconsin Lutheran) and Cody Nielsen (Oconto Falls, WI/Oconto Falls) erased an early 6-0 deficit and gave the Pointers an 18-6 lead.

Hermsen's pin at 165 came against 10th-ranked Eric Hensel.

The Auggies and Pointers traded victories down the stretch, as No. 7 Ben Vosters (Hatley, WI/Wittenberg-Birnamwood) and No. 6 Jared Kust (Shawano, WI/Shawano) each tallied victories to give the Pointers a 24-21 edge heading into the final bout.

At 149-pounds, ninth-ranked Rachad Kennedy proved too much for Steve Collins (South Elgin, IL/St. Charles North), who posted the tech fall at 6:29 of the match, earning the win for the Auggies.

UW-Stevens Point (6-6) returns to action at the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional on Saturday, Feb. 27.
