WHEATON, Ill. –
Logan Hermsen (Amherst Junction, WI/Amherst) finished second at 165 pounds to highlight the No. 24 UW-Stevens Point wrestling team's performances at the 2016 "Pete Willson" Wheaton Invitational as the Pointers finished fifth of 32 teams on Friday and Saturday.

Finals SummaryHermsen recorded four pins to advance to the championship match, where he fell in a 6-3 decision to Nick Fishback, a Division-II All-American from UW-Parkside. Three of the junior's four pins en route to the final came in less than two minutes and he pinned sixth-seeded Frank Aiello of Wheaton and seventh-seeded Derek Weinmann of UW-La Crosse.
Jared Kust (Shawano, WI/Shawano) went 6-1 to claim third place in the 141-pound bracket after being seeded sixth. The senior won his first two matches by tech fall before falling to third-seeded Jimmy Nehls of Elmhurst. In the wrestlebacks, Kust won four consecutive matches, including wins over top-seeded Matt Adcock of UW-Whitewater and second-seeded Layten Binion of North Central.
At 125 pounds,
Ben Vosters (Hatley, WI/Wittenberg-Birnamwood) finished fourth after a 4-2 showing. The sophomore lost his first match after a bye but worked his way through the wrestlebacks to the third-place match. The second seed beat two seeds on his way to the third-place match but fell 10-2 to top-seeded Lucas Malmberg of Messiah.
Dan Squires (Muskego, WI/Wisconsin Lutheran) placed fifth as the No. 6 seed at 174 pounds after going 4-2. The sophomore won his first three matches before going down in an 11-5 decision to No. 2 seed Ben Swarr of Messiah. Squires lost first match in the wrestlebacks before pinning Wheaton's Stephen Aiello at 3:54 in the fifth-place match.
Cody Nielsen (Oconto Falls, WI/Oconto Falls) and
Bo Seibel (Cambellsport, WI/Kewaskum) each posted seventh-place finishes in their respective weight classes. Nielsen went 5-2 at 184 pounds, while Seibel was 3-2 at 197 pounds. Nielsen earned the Jack Schwartz Award for most falls at the tournament, recording four in 9:14.
UW-Stevens Point finished fifth as a team with 98.0 points. UW-Whitewater won the tournament with 131.0, followed by UW-Parkside (127.5), Messiah (123.0) and UW-La Crosse (109.5).
UW-Stevens Point hosts UW-La Crosse in a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) dual on Friday, Feb. 5 at 7 p.m.
