Ben Vosters (Hatley, WI/Wittenberg-Birnamwood) went 3-0 on the day as the UW-Stevens Point wrestling team was defeated by three nationally-ranked teams on Saturday, falling 25-21 to No. 19 Cornell (IA), 23-18 to No. 24 Concordia-Moorhead and 40-3 to No. 1 Wartburg at Mitchell Hall.
Results Vosters opened the day by pinning Cornell's Scott Smith at 6:23, before picking up a 13-4 major decision over Concordia-Moorhead's Jakob Stageberg, an NCAA qualifier last season. The sophomore then picked up UW-Stevens Point's lone victory against the top-ranked Knights with a 3-1 decision over Jared Parvinmehr.
Donny Ralston (Ladysmith, WI/Bruce) and
Dan Squires (Muskego, WI/Wisconsin Lutheran) each went 2-1 on the day for the Pointers with their lone losses coming to No. 1 Wartburg. After a big win against No. 7 UW-Whitewater on Wednesday evening, Ralston earned a 3-1 decision over Erick Tucker of Cornell and a 10-0 major decision over Tyler Hoffman of Concordia-Moorhead.
Squires won his first two matches of the day via a 6-3 decision against Michael Maksimovic of Cornell and a 15-3 major decision over Concordia-Moorhead's Dane Ringquist.
Logan Hermsen (Amherst Junction, WI/Amherst) pinned Cornell's Ben Hewson at 6:24 and recorded a 7-3 decision over Concordia-Moorhead's Joseph Heinz to go 2-0 for the Pointers.
Bo Seibel (Cambellsport, WI/Kewaskum) and Steven Collins each registered one victory for UWSP.
UW-Stevens Point looks for its third Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) dual victory to start the season when it heads to UW-Platteville on Thursday, Dec. 10 at 7 p.m.
