STEVENS POINT, Wis. – Logan Hermsen (Amherst Junction, WI/Amherst) (165) and Bo Seibel (Cambellsport, WI/Kewaskum) (197) each posted runner-up finishes at their respective weight classes to lead the UW-Stevens Point wrestling team at the season-opening Pointer Open Saturday in Quandt Fieldhouse.

After an opening round bye, Hermsen posted back-to-back pins over Mike Wagner of St. John's and Keone Derain of Elmhurst to advance to the semifinals. He then posted an 8-7 win to advance to the championship round where after a hard-fought match fell in sudden victory 1, 9-7 to Izaec Quintanilla of UW-Madison.

Seibel posted one pin in his opening round bout and then two major victories to advance to the championship. In the championship, Seibel fell to Parkside's Josh Anthony 6-3.

Elsewhere for the Pointers, Ben Vosters (Hatley, WI/Wittenberg-Birnamwood) (125), Michael Bannach (Wrightstown, WI/Wrightstown) (133) and Dan Squires (Muskego, WI/Wisconsin Lutheran) (174) all posted third place finishes on the day.

Vosters posted a 5-1 record on the day, with his lone loss coming in the semifinal round to a Division II opponent in Parkside's Ronzel Darling.

Bannach battled back from a pair of defeats in the opening rounds to finish 2-2 with a pin and major victory in his final two bouts. Squires went 4-1 on the day with three of his four wins coming via pin and his lone loss came against Lakeland's Mitchell Fucile.

Anthony Friese (Hortonville, WI/Waupaca) (3-2 at 157), Mitchell Lambrecht (Sheboygan Falls, WI/Sheboygan Falls) (5-2 at 165; losses against DI and DII wrestlers from UW-Madison and UW-Parkside), Anthony Britton (3-2 at 197) and Donny Ralston (Ladysmith, WI/Bruce) (4-2 at 285) each posted fifth place finishes on the afternoon.

The Pointers return to action with the Dan Gable Open, hosted by UW-Oshkosh, next Saturday, Nov. 14. Action at the Kolf Sports Center gets underway at 9 a.m.
