WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Ben Vosters (Hatley, WI/Wittenberg-Birnamwood), Jared Kust (Shawano, WI/Shawano) and Bo Seibel (Cambellsport, WI/Kewaskum) each went 3-0 as the UW-Stevens Point wrestling team went 2-1 on the opening day of the 2015 Budd Whitehill National Duals, hosted by Lycoming College, on Friday at Lamade Gymnasium.
 
The Pointers opened the day with a 19-13 loss to host Lycoming but rebounded with a 22-14 win over the Coast Guard, before closing the day with a resounding 49-3 victory over Case Western Reserve.
 
Against Lycoming, the Pointers got wins from Vosters, Kust, Dan Squires (Muskego, WI/Wisconsin Lutheran) and Bo Seibel (Cambellsport, WI/Kewaskum) but the hosts won three-straight matches in the middle weight classes.
 
Vosters opened the second match with a pin at 4:44 but UW-Stevens Point needed wins from Taylor Beaman (St. Paul Park, MN/Henry Sibley), Jordan Koranda (Marshfield, WI/Marshfield) and Seibel in the last three weight classes to earn the victory.
 
The Pointers closed out the day strong with six pins in the win over Case Western Reserve. Kust, Austin Worachek (Casco, WI/Luxemburg-Casco), Joe Crook (Spring Green, WI/River Valley), Mitchell Lambrecht (Sheboygan Falls, WI/Sheboygan Falls), Beaman and Koranda all pinned their opponents, in addition to wins by Vosters, Squires and Seibel.
 
UW-Stevens Point will take on York at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 10 on day two of the duals.
