Michael Bannach (Wrightstown, WI/Wrightstown) put UWSP in front 9-0 with a hard-fought 7-0 victory over Eau Claire's Scott Worlund.

At 141 pounds, Jared Kust (Shawano, WI/Shawano) pushed his record to 25-5 with a 3-1 win in the third sudden victory frame, pushing the Pointers' team advantage to 12-0.

A 14-1 major victory by Anthony Friese (Hortonville, WI/Waupaca) at 157 pounds and a 4-3 squeaker by Logan Hermsen (Amherst Junction, WI/Amherst) at 165 pounds stretched the Pointers' lead to 25-0.

The first of three UWEC victories on the evening came at 174, where Matthew Laugen earned a 5-3 victory over Dylan Diebitz (West Allis, WI/Central). Mat Rieckhoff added another Blugold victory at 184 pounds with a 4-1 decision over Anthony Rottier (Little Suamico, WI/Pulaski).

Gunderson held multiple leads in the contest before Karkula was able to tie and ride him out for the victory.

UW-Stevens Point (6-9, 3-1 WIAC) next travels to the Pete Wilson Invitational on Jan. 30-31, hosted by Wheaton (Ill.). The next dual for the Pointers is the final conference match-up of the year, a Feb. 6 showdown with UW-La Crosse in La Crosse. The Pointers' final home dual of the season comes Feb. 20 against Augsburg.
