STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point wrestling team tallied four pins on Tuesday evening on its way to a 45-3 victory over the Titans of UW-Oshkosh.
ResultsThe victory moves the Pointers dual record to 5-9 overall and 2-1 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC).
UWSP opened the dual with back-to-back victories by pin, as
Jordan Koranda (Marshfield, WI/Marshfield) earned six team points with his pin of UW-Oshkosh's Alan Dalhke in 4:59 at 197-pounds.
Bo Seibel (Cambellsport, WI/Kewaskum) shaved five seconds off Koranda's time in his heavyweight bout, pinning Matthew Vaneskey in 4:54.
The Pointers earned another six team points to go in front 18-0 with a forfeit victory for
Ben Vosters (Hatley, WI/Wittenberg-Birnamwood) at 125-pounds.
The lone UW-Oshkosh victory of the evening came at 133-pounds, where Jonathan Flores defeated
Michael Bannach (Wrightstown, WI/Wrightstown) in a closely contested match, 3-1.
It was all UWSP the rest of the way, as
Jared Kust (Shawano, WI/Shawano),
Austin Worachek (Casco, WI/Luxemburg-Casco) and
Anthony Friese (Hortonville, WI/Waupaca) all earned victories for the Pointers to give UWSP a 29-3 edge.
Another pair of pins, this time by
Logan Hermsen (Amherst Junction, WI/Amherst) in 54 seconds and
Dan Squires (Muskego, WI/Wisconsin Lutheran) in 53 seconds gave the Pointers a commanding 41-3 edge and
Taylor Beaman (St. Paul Park, MN/Henry Sibley) finished the dual with a major decision at 184-pounds, a 12-2 victory over Korey Kleinhans.
Gunnar Hjorth (Oswego, IL/Yorkville) also tallied a 16-1 victory for UWSP in an exhibition bout.
The Pointers will next host UW-Eau Claire in their second conference dual of the week on Thursday, Jan. 22 at 7 p.m. in Berg Gym.
