Pointers fourth, Kust and Koranda individual champions at Al Hanke Invite

ELMHURST, Ill. – Jared Kust (Shawano, WI/Shawano) and Jordan Koranda (Marshfield, WI/Marshfield) posted individual championships on Saturday afternoon to help the Pointers to a fourth place finish at the 2015 Al Hanke Invite, hosted by Elmhurst College.

Kust went 4-0 on the day and posted a 9-2 victory in the championship match at 141-pounds.

Koranda went 3-0 on his way to the 197-pound championship. Two of his three wins came by pin on the day.

Second-seeded Taylor Beaman (St. Paul Park, MN/Henry Sibley) posted a runner-up finish at 184-pounds, going 2-1, falling to top-seeded Rodney Harvey of Olivet in a tightly contested 5-4 match.

Ben Vosters (Hatley, WI/Wittenberg-Birnamwood) went 5-1 at 125-pounds, fighting his way back through the wrestle-back bracket after a second round loss. In the third place match, Vosters posted an 11-9 decision in overtime.

At 157-pounds, Anthony Friese (Hortonville, WI/Waupaca) finished fourth, posting a 3-2 record on the day, falling in a close 6-3 decision in the third place match.

Logan Hermsen (Amherst Junction, WI/Amherst) went 4-1 at 165-pounds, posting a 6-2 decision in the third place match over Olivet's Dan Fleet. Mitchell Lambrecht (Sheboygan Falls, WI/Sheboygan Falls) went 4-2 at 165, finishing fifth with a 4-2 overtime victory against Elmhurst's Sergio Lopez.

At 174-pounds, Dan Squires (Muskego, WI/Wisconsin Lutheran) went 3-2, finishing fourth after falling in the third place match. Also at 174, Cody Nielsen (Oconto Falls, WI/Oconto Falls) went 4-2, posting a pin in his fifth place victory over Olivet's Nick Africano.

Austin Worachek (Casco, WI/Luxemburg-Casco) went 3-2, posting an 11-7 victory in the fifth place match at 149-pounds.

Elsewhere for the Pointers, Joey Seitz (Cambellsport, WI/Kewaskum) went 1-2 at 149-pounds, Boone Roycraft (Omro, WI/Winneconne) was 3-2, Joe Cook was 3-2, Carter Focht (Pine Springs, MN/Mahtomedi) finished 1-2 and Tanner Goddard (Green Bay, WI/Ashwaubenon) went 0-2 at 157-pounds.

Sam Peters (Stevens Point, WI/SPASH) posted a 1-2 record at 165-pounds and Gunnar Hjorth (Oswego, IL/Yorkville) was 2-2. At 174, Quinton Peters (Stevens Point, WI/SPASH) was 1-2 and Anthony Rottier (Little Suamico, WI/Pulaski) finished 2-2. Dominic Gunderson (Hortonville, WI/Shiocton) went 0-2 at 184-pounds, Kane Seubert (Marshfield, WI/Marshfield) was 1-2 at 197-pounds and Luke Hoffmann (Appleton, WI/North) finished the day 1-2 at heavyweight.

The Pointers return to action with a pair of Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) matches at home this week. The Pointers host UW-Oshkosh on Tuesday, Jan. 20 and UW-Eau Claire on Thursday, Jan. 22. Both duals start at 7 p.m. in Berg Gym.
