WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. –
Jared Kust (Shawano, WI/Shawano) completed a 5-0 showing at the Bud Whitehill National Duals and the UW-Stevens Point wrestling team placed eighth as the two-day tournament wrapped up on Saturday at Lamade Gymnasium.
After going 2-1 on day one, the Pointers fell 23-12 to York (Pa.) and 22-14 to SUNY-Cortland on day two of the tournament.
Kust and
Austin Worachek (Casco, WI/Luxemburg-Casco) each picked up two wins on Saturday. Kust earned a 3-1 decision over York's Nathan Colley and won by technical fall over SUNY-Cortland's Jarrod Mauge. Worachek won by decision 7-5 over John Allenson of York and 7-4 by decision against Greg Chery of SUNY-Cortland.
Wins from Kust and Worachek, along with one by
Ben Vosters (Hatley, WI/Wittenberg-Birnamwood), gave UW-Stevens Point a 9-4 lead over York but the Spartans picked up wins at the four highest weight classes.
In the second match, SUNY-Cortland won the first two duals before wins by Kust, Worachek and
Joe Crook (Spring Green, WI/River Valley) gave UWSP an 11-6 lead. However, the Red Dragons won four of the final five duals to secure the victory.
In addition to Kust's 5-0 showing, Vosters finished the tournament with a 4-1 mark in five matches. Worachek was a perfect 3-0, while
Dan Squires (Muskego, WI/Wisconsin Lutheran) and
Bo Seibel (Cambellsport, WI/Kewaskum) each posted three wins over the two days of action.
The Pointers wrestle at the Al Hanke Invitational , hosted by Elmhurst, on Saturday, Jan. 17, beginning at 9 a.m.
