Women's soccer blanked at UW-Whitewater

Box Score WHITEWATER, Wis. – Four players scored as host UW-Whitewater defeated the UW-Stevesn Point women's soccer team 4-0 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) opener for both teams on Saturday night at Fiskum Field.

UW-Stevens Point (2-6, 0-1 WIAC) held UW-Whitewater (6-2, 1-0 WIAC) scoreless for the opening half an hour but the Warhawks scored a pair of goals in a span of 5:23 to lead 2-0 at halftime.
 
Sarah Sedlar opened the scoring at 31:32 of the first half with her first goal of the season, as she met Carina Krausert's free-kick with a volley from outside the penalty spot.
 
Ruth Lenzen also scored her first goal of the season with a left-footed shot from just outside the box that found the upper right corner.
 
The Warhawks made it 3-0 at the 54:32 mark when Sierra Becker converted a rebound for her opening goal of the season. Kristen Churkey (Mosinee, WI/D.C. Everest) made a close-range save from Brianna Reid but Becker was there for the rebound.
 
Carly Pottle scored with 15 minutes remaining after cutting in from the right wing for her third goal of the season.
 
UW-Whitewater outshot UW-Stevens Point 20-3 in the game, including 10-0 in shots on goal.
 
UW-Stevens Point hosts Simpson in a non-conference match on Wednesday, Sept. 24 at 4 p.m. at Point Soccer Bowl.
