Kara Herr (Schafer, MN/Chisago Lakes) scored as the UW-Stevens Point women's soccer team defeated Carroll University 1-0 on Saturday afternoon at the Point Soccer Bowl.
Box Score Herr's goal came at the 25:02 mark of the first half and Voigt made three saves in the shutout for UW-Stevens Point (2-5). The Pointers outshot Carroll (0-4) 12-7 in the game, including 10-3 in the second half.
Herr scored her second goal of the year after a cross by
Shelley Samuel (Fond du Lac, WI/Fond du Lac) flew over the Carroll defense and the freshman tapped the ball into an empty net.
The Pointers had a chance to double their lead 10 minutes into the second half but Carroll goalie Erica Patterson saved a penalty kick by
Sarah Meylor (Watertown, WI/Watertown). Meylor earned the penalty after beating three defenders on a run from the edge of the UWSP box.
Meylor led UW-Stevens Point with a game-high five shots, three of which were on net. Patterson made six saves for the Pioneers.
The Pointers open Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) play on Saturday, Sept. 20 at UW-Whitewater at 6 p.m.
