Luke Watson (Appleton, WI/Xavier) improved to 4-0 on the season, pitching six innings of four-hit baseball as the UW-Stevens Point baseball team split a doubleheader against the Warhawks of UW-Whitewater on Friday afternoon at Prucha Field.
UW-Stevens Point 5 – UW-Whitewater 2Brandon Kranz (Waukesha, WI/West) led off the game with a single and came around to score on a double by
Kyle McHugh (Polonia, WI/Rosholt), giving the Pointers a 1-0 edge.
The Warhawks answered with a pair of runs in the fifth to take their first lead of the game, 2-1.
The Pointers responded with a pair of runs in the sixth, going in front for good thanks to run-scoring hits from
Bobby Gregorich (Plover, WI/SPASH) and
Riley Spetz (Sturgeon Bay, WI/Sevastopol). A solo home run by
Cody Hanke (Marathon, WI/Marathon) in the ninth capped the scoring for the Pointers.
Watson allowed just four hits and two runs, both earned, striking out five, snapping the Pointers four-game skid.
Nick Prebelski (Green Bay, WI/Notre Dame) pitched three scoreless innings in relief of Watson, striking out three, to earn his first save of the season.

The Pointers answered when
Taylor Carlson (Madison, WI/LaFollette) came around to score after a leadoff walk, scoring on a Spetz groundout.
The teams traded runs again in the third and fourth innings to make the score 2-2.
In the sixth, the Pointers took their first lead of the game, when Carson scored on a wild pitch by UWW starter Scott Plaza.
The Warhawks responded in their half of the sixth, plating two runs including the go-ahead score. An unearned run in the eighth capped the Warhawks scoring.
Max Frederick (New London, WI/New London) suffered the loss, his first of the season, in relief of starter
Brad Stroik (Stevens Point, WI/SPASH).
The Pointers (18-7, 6-6 WIAC) return to action on Tuesday, April 22 for a conference match-up against the Titans of UW-Oshkosh. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m. from Tiedemann Field.
