Brad Stroik (Stevens Point, WI/SPASH) each turned in strong pitching performances as the fifth-ranked UW-Stevens Point baseball team began its 2014 campaign with 9-0 and 11-2 wins over Benedictine on Friday at Lake Myrtle Field One.

After missing last season with an injury, Seidl, the 2012 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Pitcher of the Year, pitched a complete-game shutout in the opener. The senior gave up just seven hits and one walk, while striking out eight. UW-Stevens Point scored three times in the first inning and
Kyle McHugh (Polonia, WI/Rosholt) homered in the fifth inning, as part of a three-RBI game.
Stroik did not allow an earned run in five innings, while striking out four. After scoring a run in the first inning, the Pointers (2-0) exploded for eight runs in the third inning.
Riley Spetz (Sturgeon Bay, WI/Sevastopol) was 2-for-2 with three runs scored and McHugh drove in three more runs.
UW-Stevens Point faces Wheaton (Mass.) on Saturday evening at 5:30 p.m in Leesburg, Fla.
