MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Jared Kust (Shawano, WI/Shawano), Jamey Simmons (Abbotsford, WI/Abbotsford) and Bill Langford (Westosha, WI/Westosha Central) were each victorious but seventh-ranked Augsburg College topped the UW-Stevens Point wrestling team in its final match before the NCAA regionals on Friday night at Si Melby Hall.
 
Augsburg (8-5) got off to an 8-0 start by winning the opening two matches of the dual. Jared Kust (Shawano, WI/Shawano) got the Pointers (10-13) on the board with a 12-4 major decision over Marcus Hamer at 141 pounds to improve to 18-9 on the year.
 
UWSP got within 14-10 after Jamey Simmons (Abbotsford, WI/Abbotsford) pinned Drew Randall after 4:23 at 157 pounds. The win was Simmons' 29th this season against just nine defeats. Augsburg, which has three wrestlers ranked in the top five of their weight classes, then won four of the final five matches, three by decision and one by forfeit.
 
The third and final match win for UW-Stevens Point came courtesy of Langford's 4-3 decision against Tommy Teigen at 184 pounds. Langford is now 16-10 for the season.
 
The Pointers travel to the NCAA Midwest Regional at a site to be announced on Saturday, March 1.
