Pointers, Breit, Colling earn All-Academic honors

The UW-Stevens Point women's cross country team was one of 215 women's teams to be named as a U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) 2013 Division III Cross Country All-Academic Team, as released on Friday.

UW-Stevens Point earned the honor with a team cumulative grade point average of 3.28, more than meeting the minimum of 3.10 required. UWSP was one of 141 colleges to have its men's and women's teams earn the honor.

UW-Stevens Point was one of eight teams in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) to be named on the list.

The Pointers finished as runners-up at the WIAC Championships and advanced to the national meet after a fourth-place finish at the NCAA Regional Championship in Rock Island, Ill. UWSP finished 28th at the NCAA Championship on Nov. 23 in Hanover, Ind.

In addition to the team honor, juniors Ana Breit (Stevens Point, WI/Pacelli) and Julia Colling (Maplewood, MN/North) were recognized as individual all-academic honorees. Breit is a Wildlife Ecology major with a 3.87 GPA, while Colling majors in Dietetics and has a 3.84 GPA.

Breit and Colling were each named USFTCCCA All-Region honorees after finishing 11th and 18th, respectively, in the regionals. Breit finished 112th (22:42.9) at nationals, with Colling 10 places behind her (22:45.5).
