Kaitlyn Jacobs (New Franken, WI/Green Bay Preble) recorded the third double-double of her career and
Joann Wolfenberg (Adell, WI/Plymouth Comprehensive) and
Taylor Douglas (Brodhead, WI/Brodhead) each nearly posted double-doubles of their own as the UW-Stevens Point women's basketball team defeated Occidental 56-43 on day one of the D3hoops.com Classic at South Point Arena on Sunday afternoon.

Photo Gallery Jacobs shot 6-for-8 from the floor on her way to a 14-point, 10-rebound performance for UW-Stevens Point (7-4). Douglas matched her season high with 11 points and also added a career-best nine rebounds and four assists. Wolfenberg finished with nine points and 11 rebounds in 16 minutes. The game marked the first-ever meeting between the two schools.
The Pointers trailed for much of the first half but a layup by Jacobs in the final minute of the first half sent UWSP to the locker room with a 26-25 lead. Occidental (0-7) got off to an early 10-4 lead five minutes into the game but that was the largest lead either team would hold until midway through the second half.
Leading 37-35 with 10:05 remaining, UW-Stevens Point went on a 7-0 run to take a nine-point lead thanks to a three-pointer by
Jamie Destache (Sussex, WI/Sussex-Hamilton) and four points from Wolfenberg. The Tigers responded by trimming their deficit to five, 44-39, but the Pointers then stretched the lead to double figures with a 7-2 run.
Occidental led just once in the second half and shot just 28.6 percent from the field in the game. The Tigers were 3-for-19 (15.8 percent) from three-point range and 4-for-11 (36.4 percent) from the free-throw line.
Tiffany Kho scored nine of her team-high 11 points in the first half for Occidental. Triana Anderson added eight points, six rebounds and six steals for the Tigers.
UW-Stevens Point controlled the backboards throughout the game, doubling Occidental in rebounds 56-28.
Allie Miceli (Marseilles, IL/Ottawa Township) matched Wolfenberg's 11 rebounds, giving UWSP three double-digit rebounding performances in the game.
The Pointers shot 37.7 percent from the field in the game but made 13-of-16 (81.2 percent) of their free throws. UW-Stevens Point had a 15-2 advantage in second-chance points thanks to 18 offensive rebounds and outscored Occidental 32-20 in the paint.
The Pointers finish their showing at the fifth annual D3hoops.com Classic by taking on defending national champion and top-ranked FDU-Florham at 2 p.m. MT on Monday, Dec. 29.
