CONCORDIA, Wis. –
Jared Kust (Shawano, WI/Shawano) and
Taylor Beaman (St. Paul Park, MN/Henry Sibley) each placed fifth, while Logan Hermsem was sixth, as the UW-Stevens Point wrestling team competed at the Concordia (Wis.) Open on Saturday.
ResultsAt 141 pounds, Kust won his first-round match against Elmhurst's Pedro Perez by fall at 1:08 before defeating Augustana's Davis Baxster by technical fall 15-0. He then fell in a tight 11-10 decision to Adam Yde of UW-Parkside. In the wrestlebacks, Kust won three-straight matches by decision to advance to the fifth-place match, where he defeated Jake Snow of UW-Parkside by major decision 16-2.
At 184 pounds, Beaman won his first match against Jerry Harris of Triton by fall at 1:44, before losing an 8-6 decision to Wheaton's Daniel Olsen. He went on to win four consecutive matches by fall before losing to third-place Mason Baumgartner of Concordia. Beaman won the fifth-place match by forfeit.
At 165 pounds, Hermsen won his first two matches, one by injury and one by fall against Jordan Santiago of Triton at 2:19. After falling to Josh Tardt in the second sudden-victory period 4-2, he won two matches by 3-1 and 3-2 decisions to advance to the fifth-place match, where he was narrowly defeated 1-0 by Stephen Aiello of Wheaton.
Dylan Diebitz (West Allis, WI/Central) went 1-1 in the main draw at 174 pounds before making a run in the wrestlebacks. Diebitz won three matches by fall, a 9-3 decision and a 3-1 win in sudden victory before losing to sixth-place finisher Nick Fuller of Wartburg.
Anthony Rottier (Little Suamico, WI/Pulaski) and
Cody Nielsen (Oconto Falls, WI/Oconto Falls) were each 4-2 in the 174-pound bracket. At 197 pounds,
Kane Seubert (Marshfield, WI/Marshfield) won a pair of matches, one by fall, before losing to eventual champion Bryan Levsen of Wartburg in a 6-3 decision.
Ben Vosters (Hatley, WI/Wittenberg-Birnamwood) went 4-2 in the 125-pound bracket, including a pair of wins by fall and a 12-0 major decision.
Austin Worachek (Casco, WI/Luxemburg-Casco) was 3-2 at 149 pounds.
The Pointers had five wrestlers compete in the 157-pound bracket.
Boone Roycraft (Omro, WI/Winneconne) won his first two matches before finishing 2-2, while
Gunnar Hjorth (Oswego, IL/Yorkville) was also 2-2.
Joe Crook (Spring Green, WI/River Valley),
John Roycraft (Omro, WI/Winneconne) and
Anthony Friese (Hortonville, WI/Waupaca) were each 3-2 on the day.
UW-Stevens Point hosts UW-Oshkosh in its first Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) dual on Tuesday, Nov. 25 at 7 p.m. at Berg Gym.
