MEQUON, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point wrestling team, missing some of its regular starters, tallied three victories on Wednesday evening but fell to the Falcons of Concordia University (Wis.) 23-10 at R. John Buuck Field House.
The host Falcons got on the board first with a win at 197-pounds, but
Luke Hoffmann (Appleton, WI/North) tied the match at 3-3 with a 3-2 decision at heavyweight.
Ben Vosters (Hatley, WI/Wittenberg-Birnamwood) gave the Pointers their first lead of the evening, posting a 12-8 victory at 125-pounds.
The Falcons' Sean Ambrocio tied the match with a victory at 133, but
Jared Kust (Shawano, WI/Shawano)'s victory at 141, an 8-0 major decision at 141 again put the Pointers in front, 10-6.
Concordia posted victories at each of the final five weight classes to pull away and secure the 23-10 victory.
"Concordia is a solid team," said head coach
Johnny Johnson. "Our guys did not finish matches well."
The Pointers open the home portion of their dual schedule on Wednesday, Nov. 19 when they host the Rangers of UW-Parkside. the match is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start in Berg Gym.
