EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – Three forfeit victories and pins by
Jamey Simmons (Abbotsford, WI/Abbotsford) and
Jordan Koranda (Marshfield, WI/Marshfield) propelled the UW-Stevens Point wrestling team to a 40-6 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) victory over the Blugolds of UW-Eau Claire Wednesday evening at the McPhee Center.
Results
Before even contesting a match, the Pointers held a 12-0 advantage thanks to two forfeit victories at 125 and 133.
Jared Kust (Shawano, WI/Shawano) pushed the Pointer advantage to 15-0 with his 2-1 decision at 141-pounds over returning All-American Nathaniel Behnke.
Jamey Simmons (Abbotsford, WI/Abbotsford) picked up six more points for UWSP with his pin at 157, increasing the margin to 18, 21-3.
Logan Hermsen (Amherst Junction, WI/Amherst) and
Dylan Diebitz (West Allis, WI/Central) each tallied decisions at 165 and 174, respectively, pushing the UWSP lead to 27-3 before the Blugolds earned their only other victory of the evening at 174 pounds.
A forfeit victory at 197 made the advantage 33-6 before
Jordan Koranda (Marshfield, WI/Marshfield) ended the night with an exclamation point, posting a pin at heavyweight to make the final 40-6.
The Pointers (7-8, 2-2 WIAC) return to the mat on Saturday, Jan. 25 at the Border Brawl, hosted by UW-Whitewater.
