AUBURNDALE, Fla. –
Dan Douglas (East Troy, WI/East Troy) and
Ryan Schilter (West Bend, WI/West) collected four of the Pointers' 11 hits on the afternoon and
Sean Gerber (Stoughton, WI/Stoughton) drove in three runs but an eight-run second inning proved too much to overcome as the No. 20 UW-Stevens Point baseball team fell to Benedictine University 13-5.
Box Score
Douglas came around to score on a Schilter single in the first to give the Pointers an early 1-0 lead.
The Eagles responded in the bottom of the second, as Benedictine touched up UWSP starter
Zach Wendorf (Merrill, WI/Merrill), chasing him from the game after scoring seven runs, all earned on the lefthander.
The Eagles tacked on runs in the fifth and sixth frames to take a 13-1 lead after six.
The Pointers plated a pair of runs in both the seventh and ninth innings, but it was not enough as the Eagles handed the Pointers their first loss of 2013.
The Pointers return to action on Saturday, March 23 with a pair of important in region contests against the University of St. Thomas. First pitch from Auburndale, Fla., is scheduled for 2 p.m.
