MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The UW-Stevens Point baseball team opened the 2013 season by sweeping Gustavus Adolphus College in a doubleheader at the Metrodome Sunday night. UWSP won the first game 10-6 and followed with a 14-5 win in the second game.

The Pointers (2-0) posted six runs in the second inning of the first game, as
Sean Gerber (Stoughton, WI/Stoughton) (3-for-4, HR, 2 RBI) provided the exclamation mark with a two-run home run that easily cleared the left-field wall.
The Gusties (0-4) rallied for four runs in the fourth inning to cut the Pointer lead to 6-4.
UWSP added three runs in the fifth inning.
Jimmy Coady (La Crosse, WI/Aquinas) (2-for-3, RBI) smacked an RBI single to score Gerber from second base, and
Riley Spetz (Sturgeon Bay, WI/Sevastopol) (0-for-2, RBI) was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to score
Casey Barnes (Mequon, WI/Homestead) (0-for-3, R). Coady pushed the UWSP lead to 9-4 when he scored on a wild pitch.
Gerber led UWSP with three hits and
Ryan Schilter (West Bend, WI/West) (2-for-4, 3 RBI) knocked in a game-high three RBI.
Jacob Herbst (Park Falls, WI/Park Falls) (1-0) earned the win for UWSP by pitching 2.1 scoreless innings out of the bullpen.
In the second game of the doubleheader the Pointers overcame a 4-2 deficit and tallied eight runs in the fourth inning en route to their 14-5 win.
Barnes (2-for-5, 2 RBI, 2 R) hit two singles and scored two runs in the fourth inning for the Pointers and
Dan Douglas (East Troy, WI/East Troy) (1-for-3, 2 RBI) belted a two-run double in the frame.
Harry Steldt (West Bend, WI/West) (3-for-5, 3 RBI) led the Pointers with three hits and three RBIs.
Tyler Flood (Madison, WI/La Follette) (1-0) earned the win for UWSP by allowing just one hit in 3.2 scoreless innings out of the bullpen.
The Pointers play St. John's in a doubleheader at the Metrodome Monday starting at 4:30 p.m.
