LA CROSSE, Wis.- Bill Langford (Westosha, WI/Westosha Central) won all three of his matches at 174-pounds as the UW-Stevens Point wrestling team went 1-2 at the 2013 Candlewood Suites Duals, hosted by UW-La Crosse Saturday afternoon.
 
The Pointers, ranked No. 21 in the latest NWCA polls, opened the day against 18th-ranked Saint John's (MN). Lance Fabry (Ashwaubenon, WI/Ashwaubenon) and Langford tallied victories and all but three of the losses were decided by three points or fewer, but the Johnnies proved to be too much.
 
Against the No. 25 Rams of Cornell, Trevor Spears (Muscoda, WI/Riverdale), Jamey Simmons (Abbotsford, WI/Abbotsford), Logan Hermsen (Amherst Junction, WI/Amherst), Langford and Dylan Diebitz (West Allis, WI/Central) recorded victories for the Pointers. A forfeit victory at 149 for Cornell proved to be the difference, as the Rams escaped with the five-point victory.
 
In the day's final match-up, the Pointers again tallied five victories, but this time were the beneficiaries of a forfeit victory, downing No. 22 Loras 21-15. Jared Kust (Shawano, WI/Shawano), Spears, Hermsen, Langford and Andy Borchardt (Edgar, WI/Edgar) tallied victories.
 
UW-Stevens Point (3-5) returns to action on Dec. 13 with a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) match-up at UW-Platteville. Match time is set for 6 p.m.
