SOMERS, Wis. – Despite missing four starters from its regular line-up, the UW-Stevens Point wrestling team fell just short against NCAA Division II UW-Parkside, falling 26-18 in a nonconference match-up against their in-state rival.

The Pointers found themselves facing an early 11-0 deficit before Jared Kust (Shawano, WI/Shawano) tallied the first victory of the night over Parkside's Adam Yde, 2-0.

Jamey Simmons (Abbotsford, WI/Abbotsford) tallied the second win of the night for the Pointers at 157, pinning Daniel Argueta in 3:33, pulling UWSP within five, 14-9. Simmons and Argueta battled met earlier this season at the Pointer Open, with Simmons earning the overtime victory to capture the 157-pound championship. The win pulled the Pointers within five, 14-9.

Three straight victories by the Rangers made the score 26-9 with two matches remaining. Dustin Wozniak (Stanley, WI/Stanley-Boyd) picked up a tie breaker win over All-American Davien Willis, who ranks No. 4 nationally in Division II.

Jordan Koranda (Marshfield, WI/Marshfield) closed out the match much the same way much of his season went a year ago, winning by pin in 2:04.

The Pointers (2-1) next head to Mequon, Wis., on Nov. 23 for the Concordia (Wis.) Open. Action gets underway at 9 a.m.
