NORTHFIELD, Minn.- The UW-Stevens Point women's soccer team outscored the Knights of Carleton College 2-1 Saturday afternoon to improve their record to 3-1 on the season.

The Pointers jumped out to any early lead in the 10th minute when
Jessica Ruch (Fond du Lac, WI/Fond du Lac) found the back of the net on an assist by
Sammy Greer (Rubicon, WI/Hartford).
The Pointers struck again early in the second half on a goal by
Angela Gallow (Menasha, WI/Menasha), putting the Pointers up 2-0.
Shelley Samuel (Fond du Lac, WI/Fond du Lac) and
Kim Jobke (Menomonee Falls, WI/Sussex Hamilton) recorded an assist on the goal.
Carelton's Claire McGillem scored the lone goal on the day for Knights in the 69th minute, cutting the Pointers lead in half.
A late push by the Knights were turned away by a staunch UWSP defense. Goalkeeper
Kristen Churkey (Mosinee, WI/D.C. Everest) tallied 3 saves on the afternoon while her counterpart Mikayla Coulombe stopped 4.
UW-Stevens Point returns to action on Sunday, Sept. 9 in Northfield, Minn., against St. Olaf. Action begins at 2 p.m.
