EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – The defending Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference champion won its first conference match of the 2012 season as the UW-Stevens Point volleyball team defeated UW-Eau Claire Friday, 3-2.

After dropping the first set 26-28, the Pointers (12-3, 1-0) won three of the next four sets 25-21, 25-19, 18-25, 15-12.
The Pointers continued their season-long dominance in blocks, notching 38 blocks in the win. The Blugolds (9-6, 1-1) recorded just 11 blocks.
Morgan Bartkowiak (Slinger, WI/Slinger) and
Emma Brunkhorst (Germantown, WI/Germantown) each tallied nine blocks.
Four Pointers reached double digits in digs, led by
Alexis Hartman (Deer Park, IL/Lake Zurich) with 16,
Sarah Wildish (Menomonee Falls, WI/Menomonee Falls) and
Ally Groth (Germantown, WI/Germantown) with 13 apiece, and
Kati Rau (Dorchester, WI/Colby) with 10.
Hartman also led UWSP with 42 assists.
Christina Brinkman (Bristol, WI/Westosha Central) and Wildish tied for the team high in kills with 13 each.
The Pointers' next game is Saturday at 12 p.m. when they travel to UW-Superior for another WIAC matchup.
