Rain, Titans wash away Pointers winning streak

OSHKOSH, Wis. – After a nearly two-hour rain delay, the UW-Stevens Point women's soccer team saw its five-game winning streak come to an end on Wednesday evening, as the 18th-ranked UW-Oshkosh Titans held on to defeat the Pointers 1-0.

Box Score

After 1:11 of play, the skies opened up and lightning in the area caused a nearly two-hour delay in the action.

Before the delay, UWO's Carly Roiniotis tallied her first goal of the season, sneaking a ball past UWSP's Kristen Churkey (Mosinee, WI/D.C. Everest), giving the host Titans the lead.

After the rain delay, the Pointers offense could not get back on track, as Oshkosh keeper Katie Berkopec turned away all four shots on target by the Pointers in the second half to hold on for the shutout victory.

This marks the first time in program history UW-Oshkosh has defeated UW-Stevens Point in consecutive matches.

UW-Stevens Point (5-2, 1-1 WIAC) returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 22 with another road contest, this time against the rival Blugolds of UW-Eau Claire. Action is scheduled for 2 p.m.
