STEVENS POINT, Wis. - The UW-Stevens Point women's soccer team dropped their season opener Friday afternoon to the St. Thomas Tommies by a score of 2-0.

The Pointers and Tommies were both scoreless through the first half.
The Tommies broke the scoreless game at the 58th minute on a goal by Hannah Pawlik. Ten minutes later the Tommies struck again on a goal by Kat Scherer. Taylor Sabrowski, Nicole Lenz and Anna Strehlow all recorded assists in the game for St. Thomas.
The Tommies defense was able to hold off the Pointers, as they held on for the 2-0 win.
UWSP freshman goalkeeper
Kristen Churkey (Mosinee, WI/D.C. Everest) finished the afternoon with four saves while her counterpart Callan Faulkne recorded three.
In game two of the day, Oshkosh shutout Gustavus Adolphus 1-0.
UW-Stevens Point returns to action Saturday, Sept. 1 at 4 p.m. against Gustavus. The Pointers second game of the season follows the third game of the tournament where UW-Oshkosh takes on St. Thomas.
