STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point baseball team earned its 20th win of the season as it swept a non-conference doubleheader against Edgewood College Wednesday afternoon at University Field. The Pointers took game one 10-3 and followed up with a 15-6 victory in game two.

The 20th win for UWSP marks the 16th consecutive season the Pointers have hit the 20-win plateau.
In game one, the Pointers began the scoring in the third inning as senior
Justin Jirschele (Clintonville, WI/Clintonville) plated
Ryan Iverson (Eau Claire, WI/Eau Claire North) and
Dan Douglas (East Troy, WI/East Troy) on a double down the right field line for a 2-0 advantage.
The Pointers all but put the game away in the fourth as they tallied seven runs in the inning. Junior
Ryan Schilter (West Bend, WI/West), Jirschele and
Bryan Clark (Oshkosh, WI/North) all plated a run and
Clay Giese (Plover, WI/SPASH) added two on a two run double. UWSP held a 9-0 heading into the fifth.
Edgewood scored its first run of the game in the sixth inning and tallied single runs again in the seventh and eighth. UWSP pushed across one more run in its half of the sixth inning, resulting in a 10-3 final in favor of the Pointers.
Junior
Jacob Herbst (Park Falls, WI/Park Falls) (2-0) earned the victory in his first start of the season after allowing one run, none earned, and four hits in 6.1 innings of work. He also struck out eight batters and walked one.
Jirschele led the Pointers with three hits, three RBIs and one run while freshman Giese knocked in two and scored one run.
Casey Geissberger (1-3) suffered the loss after allowing two earned runs in three innings of work.
Alex Jaskulski led the Eagles with two hits and one run scored.
In game two, the Pointers jumped out to an early 6-0 lead after scoring two runs in each of the first three innings.
The Eagles fought back in the fourth inning as they tallied five runs on four hits to cut the UWSP lead to 6-5.
In the Pointers half of the fourth, Clark increased the lead to 8-5 on a two run single to score Douglas and sophomore

After Edgewood tallied one run in its half of the fifth, UWSP broke open the game as it pushed across six runs on five doubles for a 14-6 lead.
UWSP scored the final run of the game in the sixth on a passed ball and relievers
Brad Stroik (Stevens Point, WI/SPASH) and freshman
Nick Prebelski (Green Bay, WI/Notre Dame) allowed just two base runners in the final five innings of work for a 15-6 victory in game two.
Stroik (3-0) earned the victory after allowing no runs in three innings of work and striking out two.
Schilter and freshman
Jimmy Coady (La Crosse, WI/Aquinas) each tallied three hits to lead UWSP while Schilter led the team with three RBIs. Sophomore
Sean Gerber (Stoughton, WI/Stoughton), Clark, Coady and
Casey Barnes (Mequon, WI/Homestead) each tallied two RBIs while Douglas led the team with four runs scored.
For the Eagles, Marc Ostrowski (1-2) took the loss as he allowed four runs, two earned, in two innings of work. Jaskulski and Mike Selaggi each had two hits for Edgewood.
UW-Stevens Point (20-8) returns to action on Saturday, April 21 as it faces Ripon in a non-conference doubleheader in Stevens Point. Game one is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m.
