Pointers fall to Green Knights 7-0 in NCHA opener

DE PERE, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point men's hockey team committed 11 penalties on Friday evening and was unable to score a goal as the top-ranked Green Knights of St. Norbert skated past the Pointers to a 7-0 victory at Cornerstone Community Ice Arena.

Outshot 17-4 in the first period, the Green Knights capitalized on one of the four Pointers penalties go in front 1-0 after the first 20 minutes.

The Green Knights tacked on three goals in the second period, only one on the power play, to go in front 4-0 after two periods of action.

In the third, the Green Knights added their final three goals of the evening, two on the power play, to secure the 7-0 shutout.

Brandon Jaeger (Champlin, MN/Champlin Park) suffered the loss, recording 31 saves. His counterpart, David Jacobson, stopped all 19 of UWSP's shots on net for his second shutout of the season.

UW-Stevens Point (1-1-0, 0-1-0 NCHA) and St. Norbert (2-0-0, 1-0-0 NCHA) return to the ice at K.B. Willett Arena in Stevens Point for the second game of the home-and-home series. The puck is scheduled to drop at 7 p.m.
