Late Women's Basketball Rally Comes Up Short at River Falls

RIVER FALLS, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's basketball team suffered its first Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) loss of the season on Wednesday evening as the ninth-ranked Pointers were downed 67-63 at No. 14 UW-River Falls.

Behind by 11 with four minutes to go in the second half, the Pointers began to chip away, and ultimately UWSP narrowed it to a three-point game, 61-58. Down the stretch, the Falcons went 4-for-4 from the free-throw line in the final minute to secure the victory.

Leading the way for Point was Sam Barber (Schofield, WI/D.C. Everest/Winona St.) who tallied 19 points, along with Brooke Allen (Barneveld, WI/Barneveld) who chipped in with a dozen points of her own.

The UWSP (11-2, 3-1 WIAC) loss was its first league setback in 23 games. River Falls improved to 12-1, 4-0 in the WIAC with the win.

UWSP was outrebounded 47-29 on the evening by the Falcons.

The Pointers return home to face 24th-ranked UW-Eau Claire in another conference contest on Saturday, January 7. The game will be part of Girl Scout Day for the Pointers, where all Girl Scouts who wear their sash receive free admission to the game.
