STEVENS POINT, Wis. –The 11th-ranked UW-Stevens Point men's basketball team continued its winning ways, defeating UW-Platteville 71-57 in Platteville Wednesday.
The Pointers and Pioneers traded baskets to start the game, but UWSP went on a 13-0 run to take a 21-9 lead with eight minutes left in the first half.
UWSP controlled the rest of the half, taking a 33-23 lead into the locker room.
The Pointers came out hot in the second half, going on a 25-10 run to take a commanding 25-point lead with just under 11 minutes to go.
The Pioneers did not go without a fight as they chipped away at the Pointer lead but it was not enough as UWSP took home a 71-57 victory.
Dan Tillema (Randolph, WI/Randolph/Minnesota-Duluth) led all scorers with 16 points.
Tyler Tillema (Randolph, WI/Randolph) chipped in with 14 and
Jordan Brezinski (Muskego, WI/Muskego) and
Trevor Hass (New London, WI/New London/Augustana (SD)) added 12 and 11 points, respectively.
Brezinski also tallied a game-high 12 rebounds, 11 coming from the defensive end.
Matt Weik led the Pioneers with nine points while Jake Manning added eight.
UWSP (14-3, 7-1 WIAC) will return home Saturday as they host UW-River Falls for a men's and women's doubleheader. Tip-off for the women is at 3 p.m. in Berg Gym with the men following at 5 p.m. in the Quandt Fieldhouse.
