Men's basketball defeats UW-L, 64-59

LA CROSSE, Wis. – The 15th-ranked UW-Stevens Point men's basketball team won a hard-fought battle over UW-La Crosse Saturday night, defeating the Eagles 64-59.
 
UWSP held a lead throughout the first half until UW-L's Jack Taylor hit a three-pointer to tie the game at 33 heading into halftime.
 
Stevens Point came out strong in the second half, jumping out to another early lead. But at the 13:07 mark and UWSP leading 48-41, the Eagles went on an 8-0 run, with the spark again coming from Taylor.  
 
With 3:57 remaining, UW-L led 57-52 until Trevor Hass (New London, WI/New London/Augustana (SD)) took control and scored the next six points to turn the tide in favor of the Pointers. UWSP finished the game on a 12-2 run en route to a 64-59 victory.
 
Dan Tillema (Randolph, WI/Randolph/Minnesota-Duluth) led the Pointers with 15 points and also tallied a game-high nine rebounds. Hass and Austin Ryf (Winneconne, WI/Winneconne) also chipped in 11 and 10 points, respectively.
 
UW-L's Jack Taylor came off the bench to lead all scorers with 20 points.
 
UWSP (13-3, 6-1 WIAC) returns to action Wednesday as it travels to Platteville to take on the Pioneers at 7 p.m.
